Art Practice During The First Quadrimester-ish of 2022: Six recent accomplishments and six upcoming projects related to practicing art in Denver.

“Fiat Lux”, Alto Gallery, Denver.

As always I have been working steadily through my practice. Now more than in 2020 when commissioned work, sales and shows slowed down due the impact of the global pandemic. I am grateful that this year the demand for my artwork is as strong or stronger than it was before 2020/2021. The following are six recent accomplishments taking place during the first quadrimester of 2022. And six projects that are currently in progress or upcoming.

Five recent professional achievements.

1Fiat Lux”, a solo show, at Alto Gallery, Denver.  An ad-hoc installation using the Alto Gallery space as canvas by using paper tape, vinyl and reclaimed cardboard along with light and sound elements. Fiat Lux” acted as a temporary extension of a tape mural I installed on the exterior of Alto Gallery for Redline’s 2021 gala. The “Fiat Lux” installation ran between Jan 7, 2022 - Jan 29, 2022.

2 Painting titled “Heliography” featured on Saatchi Art. “Heliography” is a 24” x 30” painting for sale through Saatchiart.com and featured on “New This Week 02-07-2022.” This is an online collection curated by Rebecca Wilson Chief Curator and VP, Art Advisory at Saatchiart.com.

3 Artwork sold at auction for $2500 to fund church ministry helping refugee families. A 24” x 24” artwork was completed during a worship service at Arise Church Denver. 100% of the proceeds of the sale of this painting will be used to help refugee families from Afghanistan. This  church ministry works in collaboration with the Denver Rescue Mission.

4 “Brutalllisimo” launches on Instagram (Or a relaunching of a project previously titled “Illuminati DIA”). This is an alternate art project from Ramón Bonillla funded by the Andy Warhol Foundation and the Insite Fund. Brutalllisimo” is a collage based project reflecting upon the transience of life.

“Brutalllismo” is a continuation of a previous project, Illuminati DIA”, remaking it as a new project. “Illuminati DIA” ran into many hurdles in 2020 when it was scheduled to happen. Of course, the pandemic was the main obstacle but other issues such as the ability to find sites that were receptive to the project interfered with the completion of “Illuminati DIA”. Still, “Illuminati DIA” was shown as an installation at the Mcnichols building in 2021. Additionally, I was able to work with two Tampico, Mexico artists, Alexis Cruces and Alonso Cruces, in the  production of a mural painted in Tampico and that conceptually aligned with the project.  Also a series of “Illuminati DIA” art stickers were included as part of Understudy’s “Art Cade, an arcade that took place between December 2021 and January 2022.

5 Three paintings recently sold. “Mi Bunker Es Su Bunker”, a 24” x 24” painting was recently purchased by a Vail, CO private collector through Space Gallery, Denver. Also Cart Driver, a RINO located restaurant in Denver, CO purchased two 18 “ x 18” paintings titled “Wireframe A” and “Wireframe B.”

Six projects that are currently in progress or upcoming.

1 Currently working on three commissioned paintings for Nine Dot Art. Process teaser pictures have been shared on Instagram stories. The finished project will be posted when it is completed later this year.

2 “Brutalllisimo” will be featured through Meow Wolf’s social media. “Brutalllisimo” will continue to develop throughout the year in the form of micro-interventions shown at non-traditional spaces such as social media and public spaces.

3 Daniel and Fisher clock tower art video. A three minute art video will be projected onto the Danile and Fisher Tower Clocktower in downtown Denver as part of the Denver Theatre District’s Night Lights Denver Program. The estimated projection area is 40’ W x 140’ T, approximately 56,000 sq. ft.

4 “One Sheet: Wood, Paper, Music” group show at the Arvada Center. The Arvada Center provided a 50” x 50” Stonehenge acid-free 90lb White Paper as material to produce a unique artwork that will be shown along other artists working with a sheet of paper, wood or music. The group exhibition will run at the Arvada Center from September 15 - November 13, 2022.

5 Shortlisted for commissioned mural design. Currently competing against a selected group of artists submitting designs for a mural that will be located at a new downtown Denver building. If my design is selected I will be completing a mural at that site during the summer and sharing more about this project.

6 Installation at Storeroom Denver. Accepted an invitation to show my work later this year at the Storeroom Denver, an art installation/exhibition space next to the Vine St. Pub and Brewery in Denver.
